BookStory — Smart Desktop Calendar
A local-first calendar and event manager for Windows, macOS, Linux, and domestic operating systems. All your data stays on your machine — zero server uploads, zero tracking, zero fluff.
What Makes BookStory Different
A desktop calendar built for people who think in schedules — month, week, day, and year views, with tasks, milestones, and drag-to-reschedule.
Multi-View Calendar
Month, week, day, and year views. Switch between them instantly. Each view optimized for different planning needs.
Tasks & Milestones
Turn events into tasks, track progress, and hit milestones. Mark things done without leaving your calendar.
Drag to Reschedule
Drag any event to a new date or time. Hold Ctrl to duplicate. Resize to change duration. Simple, fast, visual.
Multiple Calendars
Create separate calendars for work, personal, and projects. Color-code everything so you always know what is what.
Timezone Columns
Work across time zones without the mental math. Add timezone columns to see every meeting in your local and remote time.
System Tray
Keep BookStory running quietly in the system tray. Access your calendar from the tray menu without reopening the window.
Always on Top
Pin your calendar to the front. Never lose track of your next meeting behind another window.
Lunar Calendar
Traditional lunar dates and solar terms alongside the Gregorian calendar. Know the date, the day, and the season.
Local-First & Private
Everything is stored locally in IndexedDB. No accounts, no cloud, no data collection. Your schedule is yours.
Custom Fonts & Sizes
Pick your preferred font family and adjust the font size to match how you like to read and work.
Works Everywhere
One app, every platform. No accounts. No cloud. No compromises.
Everything a Working Calendar Needs
Beyond the four calendar views, BookStory ships the small things that make a schedule actually usable day after day.
Local-first storage
Events, calendars, icons, hotkeys, and preferences live in IndexedDB on your own machine. Back up or move them by copying one folder.
Progress tracking
Mark each event as pending, in progress, blocked, or delayed, and see the state at a glance on the event card.
Event icons
Attach up to four icons per event — flags, locations, blockers — chosen from a built-in Lucide library you can extend.
Hotkeys and undo
Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z walk through your edit history, and every action can be bound to a shortcut you choose.
Holidays and lunar dates
Holiday data from 2000 to 2050 plus lunar dates and solar terms, each independently switchable.
System tray and always-on-top
Minimise to the tray instead of the taskbar, click the tray icon to toggle the window, and pin it above other apps.
See It in Action
A clean, fast desktop calendar with month, week, day, and year views. Click any day for details, drag to reschedule, hold Ctrl to duplicate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the questions people ask before installing BookStory.
Is BookStory really free?
Yes. BookStory is free to download and use on Windows, macOS, Linux, and domestic operating systems. There is no account, no subscription, and no usage limit.
Where is my calendar data stored?
All events, calendars, icons, and settings are stored locally in your browser or desktop app IndexedDB. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and no analytics or tracking code is embedded.
Which operating systems are supported?
BookStory runs on Windows 10 and 11, macOS 11 and newer, mainstream Linux distributions (AppImage and deb), and domestic operating systems such as UOS and Deepin. A web version runs in any modern browser.
Can BookStory show lunar dates and Chinese holidays?
Yes. The calendar ships with lunar dates, the 24 solar terms, and holiday data covering 2000 to 2050. Visibility of lunar and holiday information is controlled from the calendar visibility panel.
Does BookStory support multiple calendars and timezones?
You can create as many calendars as you need and colour-code each one. Timezone columns let you compare your local time with remote teams side by side, and each column header shows the region name with the UTC offset on hover.
Can I report a bug or request a feature?
Absolutely. Open an issue in the product source repository or reach out through the technical support channels listed in the About section of the application.
